Wrong Turn (2002)

- written November 2003

Chris is late for an appointment and to save some time he cuts through the back roads of West Virginia. But that definitely was not the right thing to do...he runs his car into a broken down vehicle and causes 5 other young adults to go with him in search of help. Unfortunately what these 6 will realize is that these woods are being protected by some very nasty rednecks who love to cause mayhem and they’ll be lucky to even get out alive.

Overall: I thought the movie was good, for the first 30 minutes. Once you get a look at the inbred rednecks, I knew the movie was gonna go “downhill.” The deleted scenes show some interesting stuff but they at least left out the more graphic scenes to avoid the film being more “type-cast” than it was. As for the “running” daily takes, it was something new to DVD as an extra but I didn’t see the problem in more than 90% of those takes - the shots that made the final cut are so quick and meaningless, I thought they could have spent more time on other problems. The cast isn’t very spectacular and if you watch the “featurettes” I think the actors/film studio are overestimating their own talent. Eliza Dushku thinks that by jumping from one fake branch to another is so admirable but it’s just even more obvious how useless these movie divas are. Skip the film.

Comparison: Bleeders meets Blair Witch Project
