Redferne has chased a warlock up to the very moments of the beheading, but just when he thinks he’s won, the Warlock escapes and travels to 1988 (from 1691). He hopes to put together the Devil’s bible by joining 3 sets of paperwork. But Redferne has traveled to 1988 also and by the time he is done a few more people will be influential is saving mankind. But don’t underestimate the Warlock’s powers, he is the son of the Devil.
Overall: Most people who enjoy this film, like the authenticity of the background of magic and witches. They praise the film for giving it some truth in its backstory and then praising the acting. I’ll give you that Julian Sands is always good as a bad guy but not sure Richard Grant is an action/horror star. Brilliant in “L.A. Story”, I’ll give you…but when he’s running around in 1988 wearing the fur coat and such, reminded me too much of the Start Trek 4. To me, the movie is just “ok”...the effects at the end are atrocious for sure. The story does seem fairly focused on plot and characters but we’ve killed the “fish out of water” (A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court) themes so every time the character of Redferne gets scared by an electronic gadget, it looks campy. My suggestion if you have a Julian Sands fetish or you need a good witch/warlock film...go for Dennis Hopper in “Witch Hunt.” (even has Julian Sands in that one) Comparison: Witness meets Trancers |
