Voodoo Moon (2006)

Summary: Cole and Heather are looking to finally make some responsible for the parent's death so many years ago. Problem is, those whom they eek revenge, may not be human. Tonight, it’s gonna end, one way or another. God better stay out of their way.

Overall: This was just a bad film all around. Frankly, regardless of how good your plot is...bad effects always doom films. The number one rule I have is this: If you can’t afford good effects, don’t use bad ones. And much of this film, you see attempts at good effects but they always fall short. Imagine a CIA spy in a foreign country who has memorized everything and done his homework and looks the part, but forgot to take off his Mickey Mouse watch. There is always something that makes each effect just look less than 100% believable. Cole’s scar looks too high, too long. The blood in the gory shots are too much, too little, or too watery. Everything is just at like, 85% effort. Close but not good enough.

But frankly, the film still has a bad story too. It’s as if our brother-sister tandem not only has no chemistry to but that they’re supposed to be related...but frankly, the sis has no clue what’s going on. It’s like a poor man’s “Scully and Mulder.” Much of the first hour is mini-flashbacks and tons more exposition...about stuff that frankly has nothing to do with our ultimate conclusion. And poor Jeffrey Combs got robbed of a good role. Best actor in the film and got abused by the casting department. What the hell was that about? A zombie, a possessed being...what was the point? And all he did was good stuff later anyway. Hell no one even questioned why he looked so bad!!!! Please avoid this film, even if you are a fan of Charisma Carpenter. Anyone who hasn’t seen “Angel” or “Buffy,” don’t judge those series based on her sleepwalking performance here.
