Summary: Lara, a precocious Goth teen, hates her wholesome sister, Helen. She envies her popularity, her beauty and most of all, her mother's love. One day, after their 16th Birthday party, during which she is particularly humiliated, Lara performs an intricate ritual in front of her Anne Rice altar involving a Barbie doll and cow heart. The next morning Helen awakens with a severe nosebleed. Then she dies in her sister's horrified arms.
Overall: Another new take on the vampire genre, it’s an interesting little film. Sorta in the vein of “Zombie Honeymoon,” we see everything a family will do to protect their own. The twist and reveal at the end is pretty interesting and unique and should make for some exciting planned sequels. We’ve got a lot going on here and the first third of the movie really sets up for the rest of the film. You get an idea of the individual characters and what makes them tick so later on, we can understand how they’re interacting with each other. The various camera shots and visuals at times also brings some unique filmmaking to your vampire experience. Gotta love the shots when our “Southern” vampire shows up. Gives us a very “silent film” feel to it. I did absolutely love the scene when the brother was working on the various dead body parts. Some great work there. Make-up and outfits were very good as well. Music played into everything giving us a creepy atmosphere. I enjoyed it a lot. Comparison: Zombie Honeymoon meets Interview with a Vampire |
