Q: Tom, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: I've been into monsters and Horror since a very young age I believe it began on my 10th birthday when I saw "The Toxic Avenger" for the first time from that time on I knew I wanted to create monsters for a living I started as a intern on "X-Files" in 2000 which led to a 2 year stint working at Mathew Mungles W.M. Creations. There I learned all I needed to open my own shop.
Q: Would you please explain your role in "The Oatmeal Man."
A: I handled the special make-up effects.
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: The movie was a blast to make and I believe that will show through reviews very but its the experience for me that matters.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: Working with oatmeal is not as easy as it sounds!!! When mixed with latex, its really heavy. We didn't have the finances to sculpt 2 full body suits and run foam latex so we made a latex oats concoction and though it looked good but didn't hold up as well as I had hoped.
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work the way you thought it could?
A: When I saw the first trailer that Sean cut together I was impressed. He is a talented "mo fo."
Q: Tell me a little bit about what other horror films that you have done.
A: I have had my hands in tons of Horror flicks from creepy indi flicks like Travis Bets's "Joshua" to campy flicks like Troma's "Poultrygeist" and shit films like "Attack of the Mega Piranha" but I love being a part of the horror community and I try to give any project I'm on my all!
Q: What film did you work on, where you really realized you could make a living at doing this?
A: There was never a doubt in my mind I did a short right out of high school called I was a "Teenage Zombie Slayer" and that was enough to let me know this is what I would do.
Q: What's next for you? Can you tell me what you have going on in 2010?
A: Well in a week I'm off to the desert for Ward Robert's "Dust Up" and there is rumor of doing a awesome horror flick called "Dances with Werewolves" some time this fall.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you’ve never worked for that you really want to work for one day?
A:
I would love to work for William Lustig in particular on the next installment of the "Maniac Cop" series.
Q: What do you look for when picking projects to be a part of?
A: At this point I'm getting a bit more selective I'm looking for a opportunity to create a horror Icon I got the itch after doing "Killjoy 3" for Full Moon last summer. It was a blast to re create a semi-known character but I want to be responsible for the next Jason, Pinhead or Leprechaun.
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: I just got home from the new Beverly Cinema where I watched “Ghoulies 2” and a unseen fave is “Die You Zombie Bastards “
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
