Interview with Thora Birch

- Thora Birch is the star of "Dark Corners." Anyone looking for more info on Thora or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page.

Q: Thora, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?

A: My Babysitter. She helped me get into it. She thought I was adorable and started sending photos to agents and I started to get work. My parents obviously were concerned but we saw how it all went. I was doing commercials and eventually doing the show “Day by Day” by age 6. Obviously school was an issue but I begged and pleaded to keep going.

Q: Would you please explain your role in "Dark Corners."

A: I play 2 roles: Susan and Karen. It really comes down to who is dreaming of whom. They end up waking up in each other’s realities.

Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one’s product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about this film.

A: It’s a mind-twist. A Head-fuck. It’s a psychological thriller with some horror elements. It’s not truly all horror but it‘s a thriller. I will say it does have some moments a times to be light tongue in cheek. The audience can laugh if they want to.

Q: If there were one part of the film that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?

A: Just the speed of it. It was a not-so-large budget so you had to be ready at all times, Really just the speed and how little time we had. However the crew was great, really dedicated people. And it was shot in the UK and what was fun was that they were trying to do American accents, but they kept coming out as “Southern” which was funny.

Q: Was there any film you’ve appeared in that maybe helped you for your role in this film?

A: Absolutely not. And that’s what attracted me to it.

Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?

A: Probably the first week. Looking at the storyboards. Watching Paul play with the overall look. He had such vision. A Nice grasp of everything and really pulled it off visually.

Q: Since “Dark Corners” what have you been working on?

A: “Winter of Frozen Dreams” and “Slingshot.”

Q: What’s next for you? If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?

A: Probably the release of “Winter of Frozen Dreams.” And some behind the scenes work on future projects.

Q: Is there any actor you really want to work with one day? Someone that you look up to?

A: There are so many. Not 1, maybe 41 or 51.

Q: You’ve appeared in various genres of movies and have done lots of different work since “American Beauty.” Right now, looking back is there a favorite film or role?

A: Work I did as a kid, there’s some stuff I’ll still watch. “Hocus Pocus” or Patriot Games.” As an adult, not yet.

Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?

A: Long list. Mainly stuff you wouldn’t know until you got to know me.

Q: Finally...this is an “Obscure Horror Movie” website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on DVD, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven’t seen?

A: Well, I really liked “Donnie Darko”, is that a horror movie? It’s a thriller right? As for truly horrifying, I think “Elf.”

Thank you very much for doing this.
