The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4 - Next Generation (1994)

- written March 1999

Here, Matthew McConaughey plays a man who finds some intruders on his ranch, seems they got a bit lost after leaving the prom. He snags Renee Zellweger and introduces her to his family of misfits, one of which is called Leatherface. Basically she has to put up with watching her friends tortured and killed before she eventually fights back.

Overall: Filmed in 1994 but not released till 1997, it stars Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger. After successes for Zellweger in "Jerry Maguire" and McConaughey in "A Time to Kill" and "Amistad," the film was released to reap the rewards of good casting. Useless and unnecessary sequel (most are) which tries the trick that "Scanner Cop" series has followed -- snag the title and the uniqueness of the film and then hope that audiences will think it is just another sequel, instead of accepting the fact it is a rip-off. (By the way "Scanners" ended with part 3.) Some see this film as a remake of part 1 with a twist; others, like me, a disgrace to the series. Oh yeah, Leatherface spends his time in drag.

Comparison: Slumber Party Massacre meets Prom Night
