Rachel Keller and her son Aidan have relocated to the town of Astoria where Rachel has found a new job at the local newspaper. Rachel soon ends up covering the homicide of a local youth, which ends up connecting to the killer videotape. But when Rachel decides to destroy the tape, she awakens Samara unintentionally. Samara wants to come back to life and decides to do so in the body of her child. Now to save his life, she might have to kill him!
Overall: This film just isn’t that good. It’s got some really nice quick scares but no true suspense and no elongated creepiness. Every time I thought something might be hiding in the corner...it wasn’t. Every time I thought that Samara might be haunting them...wasn’t. Frankly, I got disappointed because everything the first film did right, wasn’t repeated again here. I guess that shows they wanted to try new stuff but the new stuff didn’t work. The plot also left something to be desired. Too many strands left open and not much explained. How come Samara can get into the kid’s head to start with? How can a body physically survive getting to such a low temperature? Why did the videotape show up at the beginning and then vanish never to be heard from again? Frankly, if that was the case, did you even need the videotape? When Rachel was in the barn looking up Samara’s old stuff…all the lights went out but nothing happened…and we never got an explanation about the significance of the deer. We know that the dad liked to keep the antlers but that translates to Rachel and her son…how? Anyway, the film could have been much better but it really looked like it had so many limitations, including it’s rating that it probably never had a legit chance to “be all it could be.” Comparison: The Ring meets Final Destination 2 |
