Omen IV: The Awakening (1991)

Well Satan is back again trying to take over the world. You'd think he'd give up on trying to become President of the U.S. and instead become a Chinese Spy. Anyway, we begin the story with a couple, Karen and Gene York who adopt a baby from the St. Francis Orphanage in Virginia. They name their baby Delia. The orphanage though hasn't been exactly happy with the adoption since some nuns know what the baby is related to. Finally, unable to bear the strain, the nun in charge of the adoption, Sister Yvonne, runs off. The events for the first 8 years of Delia's life passes through fairly quickly. The girl grows up normal and very healthy. She seems to have few friends and definitely has a mean streak. When confronted by violence by others, she lashes out in extremely violent manners, reminiscent of "The Force." As in part 1, the black dog reappears and is greeted into the household with some reservation. Gene though has finally made his way from state legislature into Congress. He has ambitions to go higher. The mother though knows she and her daughter just don't get along too well, especially when Karen attempts religious events such as baptism and prayers. A nanny is brought in when Delia is 8 but when the nanny attempts to bring in New Age ideas into the house, Delia lashes back. Needless to say, The Psychic Fair they attend isn't exactly a success. Karen though finally becomes pregnant and unlike part 1, Delia has no problems with this child. But Karen becomes more and more suspect of Delia and finally settles on chatting with a photographer, Mr. Knight, who goes to solve her troubles. One thing he finds is that Sister Yvonne after she left the convent became a prostitute and then a preacher, named Felicity. What could make such tremendous changes in a nun? And why is Karen's new born son, Alexander, so close to his sister? Finally, is Damien Thorn actually a factor in all of this?

Overall: Cheezy film which took part 1 and just changed the direction. They took a good nanny in this film, killed her off and ended with a nanny that is more pro-Delia. There is yet again a photographer, a priest for the parent to consult, and of course one parent fears the child and the other doesn't. It is as if they just watched the first one and switched everything around. Whereas in the first film the father questions the child's birth, here the mother does. The first one had the father consulting the priest, this time the mother does. There still is a black dog and still a photographer interested in the congressman's career. Basic rip-off including an attempt to bring Damien Thorn into the story, although he did die in part 3. And really, can a fetus actually carry an embryo to its own brother and then give that up 8 years later only to have it implanted into someone else? If you saw the first two, you can surely the guess the exact ending to this one.
