Karen is an exchange student studying social work in Japan who agrees to cover for a nurse who didn't show up for work. When she enters the assigned home, she discovers the house to be a mess and weird noises. Soon enough she'll realize what is going on but she may not survive.
Overall: I'll admit straight up, as I write this, I’ve not yet seen the Japanese version of this movie but I was highly impressed with this film anyway. It's quite scary and provides ample opportunities to jump out of your chair. Although I do think the story is not as cohesive as it could have been it provides a great entertainment experience. The film can struggle due to numerous flashbacks and flash further backs that occur and clearly the audience may get to a point of "Yeah, go on back to the scary upstairs room for the 5th time in the last 30 minutes." However once the film goes forward and "The Grudge" starts to attack people outside of the house, the film really picks up. By far it's not a perfect film but it can be one of the scariest in a long time. Go for it. Comparison: The Pied Piper meets Of Unknown Origin |
