It is 4 years later and Reagan is still trying to learn from what has happened. The problem is, her memory isn’t what it used to be and Father Lamont doesn’t think the vil is over with. With Reagan seeing a psychiatrist with dual hypnosis machines, Reagan and the good Father are going to revisit the past...whether they like it or not. But who will be there to greet them?
Overall: My biggest beef with this film is that you took the scariness of part 1 and “dumbed” it down. In the first film, the possessor of Reagan was seemed to be the Devil...and it was a priest who treating the possessor as the devil defeated the possession. Now the possessor is just any ole demon, named Pazuzu and it once inhabited some African tribesman years back which is where Father Merrin first encountered it. He defeated it once before and would again...temporarily because it is back again. If this demon can jump in bodies and get expelled out just as quick, why isn’t everyone getting possessed by it? How come the Church hasn’t written a book on this demon since it seems to get into everyone? One of the biggest issues I have with The Church is that it portrays Jesus as so strong and faith as such a #1 priority and yet priests are getting killed all the time by demons, regardless of faith strength (in the bible and in film). What was scary about part 1 was the fact that the film seemed to indicate that if u didn’t believe in God, you could be possessed whether you liked it or not. With parts 2 & 3, it seems like anyone can be possessed. Hell if that’s the case, then isn’t the Devil really stronger? Apparently a mere “demon” got the best of Merrin in part 1!!!!! If a demon can do that, what could the Devil do if he tried? The film isn’t scary and gets pretty chatty with all this “Survivor: Africa” B.S. I loved the cinematography but the locusts turned the film into a giant bug horror film with Darth Vader/Conan thrown in. Casting made this film worse as well as the very fact it got made.
