The Devil's Hand (1961)

Rick is trying to concentrate on his life and girlfriend but lately every time he sleeps, he has visions of a woman he doesn’t know. One day, they stop at a doll shop and find dolls made to look like both his girlfriend and the dream lady. He takes the dream-lady’s doll home and from there, things get weirder. He eventually comes into contact with the real person whom the doll is based on and soon pledges his love to her, while his girlfriend gets sicker and sicker, and lonelier. Only “Gamba, Great Devil God of Evil” can save the girlfriend but not before Rick turns to the dark side.
Overall: It’s just an ok film that suffers from a lack of proper buildup regarding the love triangle. We don’t see enough of Rick and girl to believe that he’d just bolt to the dream-lady and frankly not enough of her spell to believe he’d not be able to resist. Some interesting effects for its time but nothing special here. Comparison: Serpent & the Rainbow meets Fatal Attraction |
