Summary: Sarah Bailey is a troubled teenager with a painful past and a history of suicidal tendencies and hallucinations. She moves to L.A. with her father to start a new life – Enrolling into a Catholic school, she comes into contact with three girls, Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle, who are their own clique because they dabble in occult practices. They form a bond with Sarah and soon realize she has some natural powers of a witch. All goes well until they realize how jealous they are of her powers!!!
Overall: I thought the film came out at just the right time. You had great marketing going after the teen audiences and you had 3 fairly good-looking young ladies in dynamic roles. Fairuza Balk at least was there to portray and the mean, bitchy characters and for the most part, the film worked. What’s fascinating is that as their power grows, instead of using it for good…or more convincingly just using it to do dynamic, powerful, worldly things, they are high school teens and basically can only figure out to use it for evil petty school pranks. In many ways, that’s what makes it a believable film. Some reviewers have attacked the film for not being true to itself, but the film shows us exactly what high school is. And if real kids go these powers, you bet this is what they’d do with it. Comparison: Witches of Eastwick meets 10 Things I Hate About You |
