The Boogens (1982)

A once prosperous silver mine in the Rocky Mountains is now closed and, "Thank God." Years back many a miner was killed and they just had to shut the shaft down for everyone's safety and for 80 years no one knew what had happened, until now. The mine is being reopened so it can be used for society’s benefit but the explosions used early on to take out some weak rafters has opened some holes and creatures are seeping out of them. Now the very engineers who did the damage must try to make it right, before they too are consumed by the horror under the city streets. But beware of how far those tunnels go because no home is safe.

Overall: Just an “ok” film. It has a unique story but moves at the pace of a turtle. It takes seemingly forever for the plot to make itself clear – for awhile I just figured the main characters were just going to mate with each other all film. The creatures look like right out of a "Godzilla" movie and they aren’t stoppable – until they want to be. I think the best part of the movie is the title. It is a poorly lit film without even the decency of showing nudity when you have people taking that many showers!

Comparison: Graveyard Shift meets Godzilla vs. Mothra
