Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde (1971)

Dr. Jeykll is looking to discover the secret to eternal life and thinks that maybe that secret lies in merging male and female dna. He experiments on flies and increase the lifespan of one fly to 3 times the normal span and this encourages him to experiment the same way on humans. After grabbing some dead female bodies and experimenting on himself, he begins to change into a woman and terrorizing the city. Bodies start to pop up as the police search for the “White Chapel Murderer” (a.k.a. Jack the Ripper). The good Doc falls in love with a female neighbor and her brother falls in love with Ms. Hyde and sooner or later both of them will be in grave danger.
Overall: Another Hammer film to review and this film obviously departs widely from Robert Louis Stevenson’s story. Needless to say it was kind of an interesting film to see how they pulled off the male/female switch but other than that, the film was nothing spectacular. I’m still trying to figure out the point of the “blind” guy. Comparison: Mr. Mom meets Junior |
