Steven McKray has been given a clue to recent shark activity in Port Amanzi, South Africa but when he discovers his buddy has died, he starts to investigate the circumstance surround it. Seems the very sharks his buddy was researching were responsible for the death too. In fact, the area has become a veritable shark food-fest as the numbers of deaths is just astounding. But one of Steven’s former nemesis in the shark world is down south too and he also has an interest in this shark activity. Seems he thinks by putting hormones into the sharks, he can then extract cancer-curing agents but the only was to treat this is to kill the sharks and try it on human subjects. Soon Steven figures this out but even then, there are bigger fish to fry!
Overall: For a film set in South Africa, I was disturbed by how many signs and such were in English. Now I watch “The Amazing Race” and notice many cities around the world have signs in English but all also have the signs in the native language. Needless to say, you can’t convince me the film was shot anywhere else than in some Caribbean nation. However, I will say the shark bodies and gore associated with it was very realistic and they did do a good job on this. Talk about nepotism: 5 actors in the film appears in “Cyborg 2,” 3 in “Cyborg 3,” 6 in “Orion’s Key,” 6 in “Operations Delta Force” and 5 in “Danger Zone.” Obviously the casting director was playing favorites, eh? It sure becomes amazing how many African people speak such great English and lack African accents. Hey, I’ve seen “Cry freedom” and I can tell Denzel Washington’s accent is African so couldn’t the casting agent gone after some South African aspiring waiters in Los Angeles?
