Severed Head Network Compilation (2000)

Summary: What we have here is 8 film shorts. Some music video, others just really short films.           1) Vomire - Truly the weirdest of the films…6 minutes of constant imagery trying to make us vomit. We have couples having bloody sex, slaughtering of a cow and some kid dressed as a pumpkin raping a cross. And to think I found the dying Cow the most disturbing of the images.           2) Faith in Nothing – A 7 minute music video basically featuring a woman slowly undressing while thinking of a lover she has lost. Some interesting imagery here but as interesting as she may look topless, she seemed totally uncomfortable writhing back and forth…as if she didn’t understand how to look sexy. And it showed.           3) Satisfaction – A 21minute short focusing on the act of sex between a woman and her male lover…as she runs through her memories of being raped by someone else. Finding she can’t handle “normal” sex, she proceeds to up and ante with this guy and the abused becomes the abuser. Fairly graphic stuff here.           4) Unwanted – A 4 minute music video focusing a man who is being chased by his demons after committing unspeakable acts of violence.           5) Victim – A 5 minute short about a group of friends trying to outwit a serial killer, not truly knowing who the killer is. Some nice stuff here but you can guess the killer a mile away.           6) Sedgewick – A 22 minute short featuring an old man who either has a vivid imagination or is suffering from dementia. Nice ideas here but was probably a little too long.           7) Liontown – A 10 minute musical short about animals who think the grass is greener on the other side. Sorry…just redder with their won blood. This might have been the best short overall. Just really different, unique with some awesome ideas. Good job here.           8) Curveball – A 5 minute “award-winning” music video. Am sure this won something for someone but didn’t do anything special for me. Some guy running around an industrial wasteland being chased by no one.           Overall: Mini comments above…but overall, it was an interesting viewing experience. Some good stuff here and some misses too. But worth a viewing.
