- Scarlet Salem is the star of many movies, including "Camp Kill", "Terror Overload" and the "You're Next 3: Pajama Party Massacre" Series. Anyone looking for more info on Scarlet or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page or her official website.
Q: Scarlet, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: Well, as a former model, I was used to the camera and had enough self confidence to want to start acting in film. I always loved to act ever since I was young. I’m a huge horror movie buff so one day I said to myself, I want to be in a horror film! I looked online to see what was out there and found NFTS Productions in Minnesota (where I live) and it all started from there!! I did my first film with them titled, “Pajama Party Massacre”. From that day forward, I’ve done numerous amounts of projects and it gets better every year!
Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "Camp Kill?”
A:This film is great! It’s a classic ode to the 80’s slasher films! I play a young, up-tight, preppie sort of girl who doesn’t really want to go “camping” with her friend, but she goes anyways and complains the whole time. Its funny cause I’ve never played that type of character before. I’m so mean and ‘bitchy’ to my friend, hehe! It was fun, needless to say! I got to work with some great people, Rachel Grubb and Director Nate Hanley! I can’t say much more about the film, you will just have to see it next year, 2009, when it comes out!!
Be sure to check out the website to the film!

Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: I would have to say locations are always hard. We’re usually at locations that we’re unfamiliar with which always makes it challenging. For instance, when we shot ‘Killer Biker Chicks’, it was out in the desert of Vegas, 100+ degree weather, no air conditioning, etc…. Plus you never know who you’re going to be working with and the list goes on. There are always difficulties in whatever you do, its just how well you can handle each situation.
Besides locations, other things can go wrong on set too. For instance, when I shot my first film, ‘Pajama Party Massacre’, a scene called for a ‘ball kick’. This is where I have to make it look real and not really kick him in the balls. Well, that didn’t go as planned. I couldn’t see what I was doing and kicked him square in the balls, hehe. It was entertaining and looked good on the big screen….. Not everything goes as planned……
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?
A: I never knew how it worked. Most of the films I’ve worked on, the film makers have contacted me, liked my look, and had a part for me. It’s really been easy for me! It helps knowing a lot of really cool people and networking!
Q: I see that you’ve also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about each one and your experience with it? First, " Trinity”?
A: I cant say much about the film but its kind of like a stalker/killer type of film. It was originally a short but is now being made into a feature! I’m really excited about it! It should be done in 2009/2010!
Q: 2) How about “Terror Overload”?
A:Terror Overload is about a creepy, stalker, truck driver who prays on victims! It has a ton of twists and turns! I co-star with my favorite actor, Joe Knetter! It will be done in 2009!
Q: 3) How about “Unholy Reunion”?
A:This film is about a young woman and her friends that are terrorized by an escape killer that her father put away years ago. I have a cameo in the beginning of the film.
Q: And finally, “You’re Next 3: Pajama Party Massacre”?
A:This film was my very first one. Its freaking awesome! Its about two women who are having a pajama party with ice cream and horror films! Oh, and you can’t forget scary stories and a killer on the loose!! It’s a must see!!! I co-star along side of my good friends, Elske McCain!!
Q: What's next for you? Can you tell me what you have going on in 2009?
A:Gladly! 2009 is going to be amazing! I plan on signing up with an agency, for starters! I’ve been getting many gigs in the last year, but now, I want to live off of what I love to do! I have the experience, time to put it all to use!!
Some films that are lined up are as followed:
DW Kann’s ‘FROZEN’
Hatred Film’s ‘DEAD BODIES EVERYWHERE’
Keith Smith’s ‘HELL STORM’
Randall Oelerich’s ‘THE WALL’
Those films will be filmed next year (2009). I have a ton others that are ‘in the works’, so keep your eyes peeled for more!!
Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?
A:I should have about 10+ more films under my belt by then. Now, that’s not including commercial, tv, or modeling work. I do all that as well!!!
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?
A: I would have to say Romero or Carpenter just because they’re work is so well known and they have some of the best films out there!!! It would be a pleasure and honor just to be in their presence!!!!
Q: Are there certain types of films you enjoy doing? What do you look for when picking projects?
A: As everyone knows, its horror!! I live for horror films! I also love action, suspense, comedy, and drama; whether its with horror or separate on its own. I can do just about anything and everything. As long as I like the script and it has a lot to offer me, I’m in!!
I love new, interesting, fun, challenging projects. Every new project to me has all of that!! The more you do, the more you get and learn out of each experience!
Q: You’ve appeared in a few films, but have also done some modeling and short films and even theatre, correct? Can you tell us where we may have seen you in those various projects?
A: I actually started out in modeling! I’ve modeled clothing for bands and companies. I’m also a Troma Representative for Troma Films, Tromette for December 2007! On top of that, I do a lot of fine art, fashion, and glamour modeling. I have a blast with it!! I love to express myself whether its in front of a digital camera or a film camera, I always have to be artistic in some way or another!
The theatre I’ve done was various skits in my acting classes. One memorable skit I did for my college was I played a Mexican mother who was abused by her husband. It was very emotional and was a challenging role. I really enjoyed it and plan to do more in the near future! Theatre kicks butt!!
About 30% of my films are short films, they last anywhere between 5 minutes to 40 minutes. Short films are very fun to do just because it doesn’t usually take that long to do them and you can hammer them out really fast and be efficient.
It’s a nice break, too!
Q: If you could choose only one type of art (modeling, movies, theatre, etc) to continue working on, what would you choose?
A:
Movies, 100%!! Modeling is my 2nd choice, but film is where its at!! I love both to death and wouldn’t change it for anything!! Soon, I’ll be able to live off of what I love to do!
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A: Oh, that’s hard!! Well, I guess I could say I love being covered in blood, being hacked into small pieces, tortured, etc… BUT when it comes to real life cuts, surgery, or anything to do with reality, count me out!!! I’m very squeamish, which not many people know! When I see blood-n-stuff I get queezy! Haha, funny I know!!!
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: The last horror film I watched was PREDATOR, which I seen when I was getting ready to go to bed the other night. Its such a classic!!!
Some Obscure films would include: THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, BAD TASTE, RAVENOUS, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, DEMONS, THE HOWLING, and last but definitely not least, AMERICAN GOTHIC.
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
A:Thank you, it was a pleasure!!
