Interview with Sarah Virginia Brock

- written December 28th, 2008

- Sarah Virginia Brock is the star of many movies, including "Scream Farm", "Lounge Act" and "The Haunted". Anyone looking for more info on Sarah or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page or her website.

Q: Sarah, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?

A: I've wanted to act all my life. I didn't go on an audition until I was 16, though. My mom didn't want me being a child star. I had gotten a call back for that old Nickelodeon show, All That. I didn't get my first film role until I was 19. I was an extra in the independent film, Lounge Act.

Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "Scream Farm."

A:I played a very unstable teenager named Heather. One minute she's scared of every little thing, another minute she's all emotional, and then she has a few brief moments of happiness. At the end, she shows bravery. I would've loved to have given that character more of a back story. I felt like she wasn't a very happy person and her boyfriend was the only good thing in her life. It would've been nice to have explored that more.

Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.

A: We all worked very hard with our roles. Even though Heather didn't have a back story, I tried giving her one in my own head to understand her more. There was more character development out of all the actors. We all really wanted to understand who we were playing.

Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?

A: There was a line that just didn't jive with me. It was in the beginning of the film and I was saying, "I heard that Jason and none for you this weekend." I just didn't believe that someone would say that and mean it. To me, it sounded more like a joke. The director wanted it to come across serious, though. Sadly, it didn't come off well in the movie. It was no one's fault, and I'm not blaming anyone for the way it turned out, it's just what happens sometimes.

Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?

A: Yes. There were some really great moments during the filming process. I liked how my breakdown scene came across when my character's boyfriend was killed. I also thought that the actor that played him (Michael) did a really good job. It was very easy working with him. I believe that we played off of each other very well.

I was also very pleased to work with Kimberly. I thought that she was very talented. She's such a good actress and a very warm person. It was such an honor working with her!

Q: I see that you've also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about each one and your experience with it? First, "Lounge Act"?

A: That's a romantic comedy about two guys that are tired of getting hurt, so they just start sleeping with random girls. I was an extra in that movie. It was a very good experience for me.

2) How about "The Haunted"?

A: That"s about 3 kids that found a haunted house and were killed by the monsters inside. Cheesy, I know, but it worked. I played the girl holding the camera. You heard me talk the entire film, but you didn't see me until the end. It was very Blair Witch Project.

3) How about "No Return"?

A: It was about a guy who murdered a girl and after 1 year, went back to the scene of the crime to remember everything. I played her best friend. It won third place at the Sidewalk Film Festival Scramble. The director was great and I hope to work with him again!

4) And finally, "Pretty Vacants"?

A: My favorite role! It was about two guys that went out one night looking for girls. They end up meeting my character and some other girls and from there, trouble ensues.

Q: What's next for you? I see that your schedule looks pretty busy for 2009. Can you tell me what you have going on?

A: I'm featured in a documentary about scream queens. It's called, Welcome To My Darkside! I'm also going to be in a book that's also about scream queens. It's called, Queens of Scream: The New Blood.

I'll also be doing another 3 films. One of them is called Zen: Hunter. I'm very excited about that one! The other two films are called Urban Decay and Second Date.

Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?

A: I'll be married! I also hope to have started the process of having my own production company with my husband. I also believe that I'll be doing more acting and modeling.

Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?

A: Clint Eastwood, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Cory Edwards.

Q: Are there certain films you enjoy doing? You've appeared in some films with some horror elements in them, but the rest tend to be diverse and just look like you're out to have some fun. What do you look for when picking films?

A: I love doing all types of movies. I love horror films, but I'd also like to do some family movies and some dramas. I'd never abandon horror, I just want to expand myself.

Q: You've appeared in a few films, but have also done some commercials and short films and even theatre, correct? Can you tell us where we may have seen you in those various projects?

A: I was in a Verizon Wireless commercial a few months ago. I'm also doing a mystery dinner theatre show at the Stardome Comedy Club called Alabama Superstar! My future husband is in it as well!

Q: If you could choose only one type of art (commercials, movies, theatre, etc) to continue working on, what would you choose?

A: Movies, hands down. I love doing all types of acting and I want to continue doing it, but movies are the best! I can't explain why, but I love it so much. Before I meant my soul mate, I had acting. Now, I have two loves of my life!

Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?

A: I was doing a movie called Pretty Vacants and we were doing a scene where I was being stabbed in the leg. Well, the production crew had us working with real knives and on accident, I got stabbed in the leg! I had to get three stitches. The director took full blame and he paid for all my medical bills. I went back to work on the movie the following week. Ever since then, he hasn't worked with a real weapon. He really is a wonderful director who just made a mistake. What I got out of it was a cool scar and proof that I'm a hard working actress!

Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?

A: Let's see. I rented "Dial M for Murder" recently. Can you believe that it was my first time seeing it? It deserves to be known as a classic. My favorite horror movie that a lot of people don't know about is called "Sorry, Wrong Number." I was even in the play production of that film! It's a very underrated movie and I hope that after people read this interview, they rent the movie.

Q: Thank you very much for doing this.

A: Thank you! I had fun! Kisses! If you're interested in casting me for anything, vist my website at www.myspace.com/ginny1986
