Summary: Ji-won is a college sophomore studying sociology and suffering from amnesia. She cannot recall the past few years of her life including a terrible secret that won’t stay buried. As this girl attempts to move forward, she discovers that the members of her old high school clique are dying, all victims of drowning. She must figure out the truth before it kills her too!
Overall: In terms of the story, I enjoyed the film. It tends to be confusing at first but eventually settles down and explains a lot. The ending is a very nice twist which sorta gets previewed seconds ahead of time...but it was good. Acting was so-so but my real problem lies with the abysmal camera work. As we see Ji-Won talking to Mi-Kyung in the hospital, the camera jumps as if an earthquake has taken over. Now I know the point is to show the emotion and power of the scene as well as the weird stuff that’s going on. However, then use some scary music or something to accompany it. Here we have bad camera work with no explanation why and it gets downright disturbing on a visual level. It only does this a few times but it’s very annoying when it does occur. However it’s a good film with a really nice, smart ending! Comparison: Ringu meets Shattered |
