Summary: An uproar is caused when some bodies are discovered around the countryside, giving way to the legend of the "Werewolf of Allariz". A traveling vendor rolls through the forest in his old wagon and a woman from every village on his route faithfully awaits him. He's attractive, intelligent, charming.... But he might just be the killer of all these people. Is he a werewolf, is he a serial killer, or will he be a victim?
Overall: This film is based on the real life story of Manuel Romasanta in Spain from the 1850’s, who killed 13 people and after being caught, claimed he was a werewolf. The court ended up finding him to be mentally ill when a doctor convinced them that lycanthropy was a mental disease. And you thought the people in our past weren’t as backwards as we make them feel huh? The film is a very decent film showing us the bad guy and his killings, much of which happens off-screen. The film isn’t really a horror film but more of a dramatic werewolf film. Good nice historical film but little action to keep one interested. Good performances but tends to put you to sleep. But hey, it’s fairly historically accurate so go for it! Comparison: Brotherhood of the Wolf meets Jack the Ripper |
