Puppet Master 4 (1993)

- written January 2004

Sutek, a demon in the underworld, can’t stand the fact that his secret of reanimating life which he allowed the Egyptians to use has now been snagged by Andre Toulon. He has decided that everyone knowing this secret must be killed. Turns out that Bodega Bay Inn is now occupied by Rick - a wunderkind doing research for a special governmental agency in order to develop artificial intelligence. He has the whole house to himself but ends up discovering his roommates, the puppets, after a few friends drop by. With Cameron, Suzie, and Lauren staying over the 4 soon find and animate the puppets. But Sutek has sent his special puppets off to kill. They begin with Rick’s bosses and then move to the house where they begin to lay waste to the inhabitants. But the puppets join Rick and are determined to fight back!

Overall: Another film & another puppet. We add Decapitron in this film and no, nothing gets decapitated. In fact he only scores one whole death and that’s because some special acids couldn’t destroy the totems - the puppets invigorated with the spirits of Egyptian sorcerers in Sutek’s kingdom of hell. Plus although we watched Ilsa/Leech Woman in part 3, her death in part 2 finally catches up with her. We add a nice Ouija connection in the film. Sutek found a way to get the puppets into reality without a problem but then needs the Ouija in order to get puppets into the hotel? Huh? The film was easily made same time as part 5 (which is a "Full Moon" company staple -- they did this with 4 and 5 of "Trancers" too). If it isn’t obvious enough, realize the preview for 5 is before the credits of part 4. Overall? What can I say? At least we’ve found a stable Andre - who will remain through 5 & 7. Only die-hard fans need watch any more of these films!
