Vin Diesel is Riddick, an extremely dangerous prisoner who's been transferred from one planet to another. But the trip through space suffer problems when the ship goes through a meteor shower and suffers damage. Most of the crew perish but some of the passengers do make it out alive, including Riddick and the bounty hunter who's the protector. Immediately when the stranded touch down on the planet, they sense impending danger. See, there had been a colony of humans there but no signs of life are left. Now when the 3 suns start to set, one by one the visitors begin to vanish. It is then that the captain of the ship finds the key to the turmoil, a planet which is about to enter a solar eclipse of unknown duration and the monsters who can only survive in the darkness. With darkness becoming a fast inevitability, the visitors must try to repair their ship and get home. But when all the lights go out, that is when the real fun starts!
Overall: Decent film and story but in my theatre, the sound effects were really bad. Enjoy Vin Diesel, the new Arnold Schwarzenegger, in a very dominant and exciting role. The rest of the cast is sub-par and Keith David is simply not a good enough actor to be worth minimum wage. Enjoy the film and the new action star of the 21st century. 08/2004 Well when the sequel was released to the movie theatres, a "Director's Cut" version of this film was released on dvd. Frankly there is supposed to be 2 minutes more footage but it wasn't anything terribly exciting. One of the few times that a "special edition" wasn't very special.
