Well since the ending of part 2 was so unfulfilling, this movie was easily preordained. Film starts off with a review of the past films and then begins anew with Jody returning. Seems Jody was turned into one of the Tall Man’s balls (no sexual pun intended) and can switch back into physical form anytime he wishes. But the Tall Man is right on their tale and kidnaps Michael. Reggie and the ball must now go in search of their friend. On the way they meet up with 2 new travelers, a young boy, Tim, and a Grace Jones’ wanna-be Rocky. Seems Rocky has a fetish for ninja weapons and Tim is quite handy with a fire-arm. The final battle is in Boulton and don’t fret, you may get a chance for the usual Phantasm ending to pop up.
Overall: Probably the least seen of the Phantasm films given its cable release, whereas at least part 4 ended up in the video stores first. The good thing is, we get the actor who played Michael in the first film back - James Le Gros didn't do much justice to the character in part2, but we lose the dwarfs for this film. The traditional “Phantasm” endings, which all prior acts have been cancelled out, seem to get old by this point. Nice action sequences but try ending the story, eh?
