Octopus 2: River of Fear (2001)

A mysterious creature has entered NY harbor and killing innocents who are out fishing. Only a cop with a weird idea of how to do his job can find out the truth, but saving lives isn’t so easy.
Overall: This film was such a rip-off of "Jaws" it wasn’t funny. A few people die near the beach, someone finds out what is doing it, warns the authorities, the authorities don’t believe them and feel that the $$ generated form the holiday weekend of beach goers can’t be stopped. Yep, same exact plot. But this film is very slow and consistently uses the exact same shots of the World Trade Center (a few months before 9/11/01) and a NY bridge. The octopus is smaller than in part 1 with no real connection to the first film. The boom mike at the press briefing sees more air time than the octopus does. The film calls itself “The River of Fear” but it’s more like “The Harbor of Silliness” in my opinion. Film ends copying “Daylight”. Comparison: Jaws meets Striking Distance |
