Interview with Nicole Kruex

- written December 20th, 2008

- Nicole Kruex is the star of many movies, including "Terror Overload", "Azrael" and "Trinity". Anyone looking for more info on Nikki or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page or her official website.

Q: Nikki, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?

A: Sure!! Well…as an ankle biter I took interest in theater. I created plays for my family with costumes and music. I got my first taste of a real audience in 6th grade when I played the part of Dracula in a play called Hollywood Hotel, it was a rush!! As time progressed I’d become a competition dancer, landed a few commercials, collected thousands of modeling photos, and moved into film!!

Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "Terror Overload."

A:Terror Overload is a crowning achievement!! So far one of the best roles I’ve had the privilege to play. I am Aja, a sexually exploitive dominatrix type who captures my prey with the help of my sidekick and teaches him a “lesson” in the most despicable of ways… It’s sick, demented, and a hella bit of good holiday fun!

Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.

A: Ohhh, well. What’s to not like? Boobies…. Check. Blood…. Check. Sex….Check. And a cast of insanely wicked boys and girls willing to do almost anything on camera. Yep, I think I would watch it… wouldn’t you?

Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?

A: Yeah, believe it our not the most difficult part was making out with Scarlet Salem. Now don’t get me wrong, kissing chicks is fun!! But I’m 5’7 and she’s like 5’4, the mechanics of the moment had moments of awkwardness. The bigger problem? It took our director forever to say cut...though, I wouldn’t know why? LOL.

Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?

A: The day I read the script and said yes? NFTS has never boasted more then they are. We all knew exactly what we were getting into from day one. The guys are fun, they have wicked senses of humor… and anything that Joe Netter writes is instant gold!

Q: Looking back, I see that you’ve also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about each one and your experience with it? First, "Trinity”?

A: Trinity, a cute little serial killer kinda story. I can’t really give away too much, but we shot the short in interest of shooting a full feature. I think it will be finished next year, but my role in it my change.

2) How about “Lust”?

A: Lust is almost finished… I recently saw the raw cut, I guess at this moment I can’t say much in the way of good or bad. But the story was fun! Two lovers invaded by memories of the past and in turn are threatened with death. I play ‘Nicole’ a girl with a horrible past, my boyfriend Phillip (Warren Anderson) and I are attacked by a group I had once ran with and are attacked. Landyn Banx plays Devon the main antagonist… it’s fun, and may be well received.

3) How about “Into Temptation”?

A: Into Temptation was a larger budgeted film by Patrick Coyle, I only had a minor role but the chance to stand two feet behind Jeremy Sisto and tell jokes that made him smile was payment enough for 8 hours of “Back to One!” This was the same setting with “A Serious Man” by the Coen Brothers, nothing like brushing shoulders with the big boys!

4) And finally, "Azrael"?

A: Azrael is like a “Highlander” meets “Interview with a Vampire” meets “The Craft” kind of flick. I play Maribelle, the overtly sarcastic little sister of Vaughn, a mob boss and love sick villain. He captures another man’s woman and triggers a domino effect of gunfire and sword fighting. It was a fun shoot!!

Q: What's next for you? I see that your schedule looks pretty busy for 2009. Can you tell me what you have going on?

          A: Oh yes… So far:
I am scheduled for Zen part one, two, and three as Quintana.
I will be filming episodes 2 – 12 of the television show Dead Reckoning.
I’m working with Jonathan Jones on Hunger and the Fear the Dead Feature.
I have a role in “Hayride”
I was just contacted about another film… Not sure what the title is yet.
I have a play titled, “A Dreary Monday” premiering in March.
I’m directing the first TRIWAR Feature.
AND I have four other out of state films I’m considering.

Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?

A: Wow… I hope my first Box Office release? Not sure… but my goal is to at the very least make a living in acting, directing, and producing. Different from a lot of the horror crowd… This isn’t a hobby, or perhaps an ego stroke, for me… I’m working toward a Bachelors in the Science of Film. I’ve trained in cinematography, motion graphics, sound editing, film editing, script creation… etc. This is my career, and my life.

Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?

A: Yeah… me. LOL. No No, if I could pick any directors to work with, they would be Robert Rodriguez, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Craven, James Cameron, and Tim Burton.

Q: Are there certain films you enjoy doing? You’ve appeared in some films with some horror elements in them, but the rest tend to be diverse and just look like you’re out to have some fun. What do you look for when picking films?

A: I love Horror… and even more so, ACTION!! I love stunts and fighting, weaponry and blood….so Horror and Action are at the top of my list. BUT when I look for projects, they have to have substance.

Things like Camp stories and stalkers with stereotype characters, though fun to watch, aren’t on my agenda. It either has to be intelligent, or a role that fits me (even if it’s silly) I’m not really one of those types that intends to get involved in everything just to be in everything.

Q: You’ve appeared in a few films, but have also done some TV and short films and even theatre, correct? Can you tell us where we may have seen you in those various projects?

A: I did a principle role in an NBC Christmas promotion commercial, A Detroit Pistons 2009 season commercial, Dead Reckoning (mentioned earlier), American Café, and I did a festival run at the Bedlam Theater last year!!

Q: If you could choose only one type of art (tv, movies, theatre, etc) to continue working on, what would you choose?

          A: Film… definitely Film.

Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?

A: Sure… I’m obsessed with prison. I love watching Supermax T.V. shows and once a year I waste a week watching all six seasons of the HBO release OZ (aka The Oswald State Penitentiary) I’m fascinated by the performances of Eamonn Walker, Christoper Meloni, Harold Perrineau and Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje… It’s so real, yet not. I imagine what things were like for people like Ed Gein, David Burkowitz, Andrew Cunanan. My adoration was topped off a few years back when I was honored to visit Alcatraz!!

Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?

A: The last horror film I rented was “The Devils Curse”, which I believe was a London release staring one of the girls from The Descent. It was pretty good.

As for my favorite film people haven’t seen? I’ve grown partial to the Asian horror/monster release “The Host”… it was pretty cool!

Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
