- Nicole Blessing has appeared in many movies, including "Unholy Reunion," "Psycho Holocaust," and "Hostile Frequencies". Anyone looking for more info on Nicole or her films, can visit her at her IMDB page or her website page.
Q: Nicole, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: I'd always been interested in acting, and started to seriously pursue it several years ago when I took classes from veteran acting coach, Lev Mailer. After working with him for several months I got the lead in a French language film called Pauvre Anne. It was to accompany a French language book marketed to high schools. The same director also shot a short called Kill Cinderella in which I had the role of the Little Mermaid. It was about Fairy Tale women in a divorce support group. I continued to do more film work, and lately it's been more in the horror genre.
Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "Unholy Reunion."
A: I play the main character’s drug dealing, slightly slutty friend, Liz. She's a bad girl, but it's always fun to play the bad girl. Liz has an underlying bitchy quality that carries throughout the film.
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: I’d like people to see the humor in the film.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: The most difficult part of filming was the shooting schedule. We shot the film in the order of the script, and often until the wee hours of the morning.
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?
A: Actually there wasn’t. It’s hard to tell when you don’t view the footage. I just did the best job I could, and hoped it would look good in the end.
Q: Looking back, I see that you’ve also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about each one and your experience with it? First, "Psycho Holocaust”?
A: Psycho Holocaust is the tale of a dream vacation turned into a nightmare. I play one of the vacationing friends, Sara. She's a nice person and wants everyone to get along and have a good trip. Against her better judgment she follows her boyfriend into the woods. We shot the whole film in a week in Wisconsin. Everyone worked very well together, and kept the production on schedule.
2) How about "Hostile Frequencies"?
A: It was TMJ Productions’ 2007 entry in the 48 Hour Film Project. The entire film was written, shot, and edited in 48 hours. I played an evil secret agent along with my friend David. There was a lot of running in heels.
3) How about "Code Black"?
A: The 'war on drugs' is being taken to a whole new level in a battle for control of the multi-billion dollar industry. Someone has poisoned the illicit drug supply and people will soon begin to die. Dealers are being rounded up and murdered, with their corpses burned in ovens to "hide the evidence". In the 1960's, the government had a plan called "The King Edward Plan" to thwart any attempts by social activist groups to bring to prominence a "black messiah". In 2007, the plan will be resurrected. The plan will attempt to end the black market drug trade, destroy the ghettos, and bring "order" to the country. The government will control all aspects of the legal drug trade.
I play Senator Samantha Coleman who gives the approval and sets the plan into motion. She’s the type of character who clawed her way to the top, and intends to stay there no matter what it takes.
4) And finally, "Gun Point"?
A: Gun Point was a short written by Matt Vaessen who was an uber awesome producer on Psycho Holocaust. It was based on a news article he read about a coffee shop being robbed leaving three people dead. I play half of a couple that decides to rob a coffee shop and nothing goes as planned. I had a great experience working on the film.
Q: What's next for you? Can you tell me what you have going on in 2009?
A: I continue to model and do voice over work. I’m always looking for new and interesting projects. I hope 2009 brings good things.
Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?
A: Maybe some voice over animation work, you can really test yourself when your entire performance depends totally on the inflection and emotion you can portray in your voice. An entire wealth of a character’s soul can be reflected with a well placed and posed sigh.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?
A: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?
I’d really like to work with Clint Eastwood, Danny Boyle, David Fincher, Wes Anderson, Joss Weden, Tim Burton and of course Guillermo del Toro. There are so many talented directors out there; it really is difficult to limit my selection.
Q: Are there certain types of films you enjoy doing? What do you look for when picking projects?
A: First I look for a good story. Then I look at the role and what I would be able to contribute to the character and if it would be a good fit.
Q: You’ve appeared in a few films, but have also done some theatre, tv and even some voice-over work, correct? Can you tell us where we may have seen you in those various projects?
A:You may have seen some of the commercials. They are rotated and appear in different regions, so it’s difficult to tell when they are airing. You can always visit my website at www.nicoleblessing.com to view clips of my work.
Q: If you could choose only one type of art (theatre, movies, tv, etc) to continue working on, what would you choose?
A:That’s hard to answer. I enjoy all aspects of the art, but if I had to pick one, it would be movies. I find working in film truly rewarding, and there’s nothing like seeing your name up on the big screen.
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A: I would like to thank your readers and visitors for supporting me and following my work.
People probably don’t know that at one time I wanted to be a physicist.
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: The last horror movie I watched was “Let the Right One In”. It’s a Swedish film, but that shouldn’t dissuade anyone from seeing it.
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
