Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933)

Summary: Florence is trying to save her job at the newspaper and to do so, she needs to break a story that no one else has. Seems a famous socialite is dead and the body has gone missing. A wax museum is about to open up nearby and Florence has the idea that this was model look a little too much like bodies that have gone disappearing lately. She goes to investigate but soon realizes her roommate is a little too connected to everything too!

Overall: Through much of the movie, you tend to forget it’s a horror film. The wisecracks and comments that Florence makes really keeps the mood down such that when the horror finally rears it head at the end of the film, you’ve lost focus and can’t get up for it. We have some nice ideas here but frankly the film was remade better with Vincent Price in “House of Wax.” However the film is interesting to watch and you see Fay Wray (as the roommate) and it’s not that bad of a film. But the wisecracks tend to take away a bit of the enjoyment.

Comparison: House of Wax meets Superman Returns
