- Maxine Wasa has appeared in many movies, including a role in "No Strings 2: Playtime in Hell". Anyone looking for more info on Maxine or her films, can visit her at her website and also at her IMDB page.
Q: Maxine, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: I started at a very early age in appearing at the age of 7 - i think - in my first film, which funny enough was a horror film called The Ice Cream Man. From that point on i was hooked. I loved the whole process of film making, everything from the foley artist to the gaffers to the post production. It was all fascinating to me.
Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "No Strings 2: Playtime in Hell"?
A: I play a girl named Karen who is a military wife who's husband is away most of the time due to a classified assignment, and their only form of communication is through video diaries. Weird things start to happen around the house, which you can hear/see through the video diaries.
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: No Strings 2 Playtime In Hell goes back to the core of horror film making where it's not just about the effects, but about the inner relationship of the characters which can be more frightening than any special effects can create.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: Filming my part in isolation was particularly challenging and gratifying. Having the chance to explore a huge range of emotion with no other actors to play off of was difficult to say the least.
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work the way you thought it could?
A: When filming my last scene and I scared myself I knew...this is going to be good.
Q: Looking back, I know that you’ve also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about them and your experience with it? First, “My Stepmother is an Alien”?
A: With a cast like Kim Bassinger, Dan Aykroyd, Jon Lovitz and Director Richard Benjamin how can you have anything but a great experience. Kim was amazing to me. Coming to my trailer on the first day of shooting to welcome me.
2) How about “Clinton and Nadine”?
A: This film was a special treat for me to be involved in. Andy Garcia, Morgan Freeman,Ellen Barkin, Michael Lombard, John C.McGinley made filming this very dramatic film a pleasure.
3) How about “Savage Beach”?
A: Savage beach for me was just pure fun. Filming with my "Mates" and the wonderful campy director Andy Sadaris.
4) And finally can you tell me a little bit about your work on tv shows, such as “Miami Vice”?
A: I started on Miami Vice when I was just in high school. Getting to play so many different characters and learning how to grow as an actor week after week with so many special guest stars and the brilliant direction of Michael Mann could not have been better.
Q: Your resume is so diverse with your modeling, music, acting and even theatre. Looking back, if you could have only chosen one field to excel in, what would it be?
A:
A: That is a very hard question to answer with my full heart. For me, entertainment has no limits.
My first love was music. Studying classical music and eventually moving into the rock world and singing with people like Alice Cooper, Shalamar, Nobody's Girlfriend,The Julies, and Concept 7 to name a few.
Q: What's next for you? What else does 2010 hold for you?
A: This is a very exciting time in my career.
- I have a new graphic novel that my writing partner Carrie Magalski and I spent 12 years working on that is about to be released.
- The new Dan Reed CD "Coming Up For Air" that I produced just dropped and the tour just launched.
- A new film that I will be staring in called Fragments of Shadow. I just did No Strings 2: Playtime In Hell with director Robert Noel Gifford, A Sci-Fi film with The amazing director Neil Johnson called Chiller Theater in October.
- The Wizard World Comic Con Tour.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day? Or perhaps any actors or actresses you’d like to star with in a film?
A: I have worked with some of the best directors in the world. John Landis, Kevin Bright, Michael Mann, Richard Benjamin, and Robert Noel Gifford to name a few.
I would love to work with james Cameron at some point. As an ocean explorer myself I have a great respect for someone who can go to the depth that he has gone. No star is out of his reach.
Q: What do you look for when picking projects?
A: I look for a project that will leave a mark in the world. Working with a special cast, a director with a vision or an artist with a message is a must for me.
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A:
A: I am so grateful to all of the fans who have supported me in my career. I have been doing the Comic Cons lately and am so happy to meet each and everyone of you face to face. Come out and say hello and be sure to say you read this interview at Obscurehorror.com
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: I am a big fan of the Troma films. They are pure fun that makes you laugh and scream
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
