Matt Cordell is an innocent cop who pissed off the wrong people. Tired of media criticism of police brutality, the Police Commissioner ensures that Matt is tried and convicted for the supposed beatings of some really bad guys. Once in prison, Matt is beat up and killed by the very people he put away. But death isn’t the end - it is just a state of consciousness. See, Matt comes back and decides to kill the cops he once helped to protect. Yet as the man-hunt progresses to find the cop killer, the police themselves focus on one of their, Jack Forrest. Despite Jack’s innocence, no one believes him...except maybe Detective Frank McRae. The closer the investigators get to stopping Matt, the closer Jack comes to dying himself. The question is, who will win: the brutal cops or the dead one?
Overall: This a semi-decent film. I saw this in the movie theatres back in 1988 and enjoyed it. Decent story and had some good lines and effects. Unfortunately, there were 2 sequels but they weren’t really that bad. Enjoy the many stars in this film: Jack (Evil Dead‘s Bruce Campbell), Frank (The Fog’s Tom Atkins), Commissioner (Shaft’s Richard Roundtree). Comparison: Natural Born Killers meets Halloween |
