LovecraCked! The Movie (2006)

Summary: An investigative journalist is searching for the mystery behind H.P. Lovecraft and we begin to realize the mystery is actually in what he’ll do next!

Overall: What we have is a series of 9 shorts wrapped together with this journalist doing some investigative reporting on H.P. Lovecraft. The shorts are quite diverse in every way possible but still manage to stay slightly interesting. In order we have: “The Statement of Randolph Carter,” “History of Lurkers,” “Remains,” “BugBoy,” “Witch’s Spring,” “Alecto,” “Chaos of Flesh,” “Re-Penetrator,” “And this was on a good day.” The best one probably is “BugBoy.” It’s easy to watch, understand and keeps you interested. The majority are just “ok” but nothing too special. Frankly, the soft-porn “Re-Penetrator” was sorta interesting in a way. The sex was so obnoxious but the actors stayed in character much of the time, that frankly, it was an amusing watch.

The best part of the movie is the wraparound story of the journalist. At first as we see him standing in a children’s wading pool, I was sorta unsure how the film was gonna go. My readers know I’m not traditionally a fan of spoofy & satirical horror movies. But you can’t help but laugh and find fun as the journalist goes out of his way to do everything and anything to get info on our subject. And frankly 2 of his scenes were easily the most entertaining: 1) riding the bicycle and also, 2) running into a competing journalist who is covering our journalist. Frankly, as the film went on, I sorta wanted to speed through the shorts to find out what obnoxious and crazy things would appear next! Any fan of Lovecraft would find the film interesting but frankly this film will appeal to anyone looking for an entertaining 90 minutes.
