Bram Stoker's Legend of the Mummy (1997)

Summary: Abel Trelawny has been viciously attacked and lays in a coma. His daughter calls her ex-boyfriend for help and soon they realize that there’s a curse associated with Abel. He once disturbed the coffin of an Egyptian Queeny whose mummy he has stolen. Now the mummy is alive and looking for revenge.

Overall: This film is based on Bram’ Stoker’s The Jewel of the Seven Stars, which I have not read yet. However the film seems to just come across as a wanna-be version of the 1999 film “The Mummy.” All about some attacks and distraction and forgetting to include more plot into the film. We have a bunch of main characters but I’m still confused on something. Our hero, Robert, once dated Abel’s daughter, Margaret. Robert basically admits the date was sorta one-time thing, didn’t go well and was over quite quickly. So why exactly is she calling for his help? And remember, she called for it, long before she realized there was an Egyptian Curse and he knows something about Egypt. She called him out of the blue…and it fits only once we know the facts of the mummy. But these characters should have been asking themselves more of the “why” much earlier on. As for our supposed helper/bad guy, John Corbeck (played by Louis Gossett Jr.), can I say “oh my god, how far he has fallen?” The moment he puts on that silly hat…that was like the moment anyone watching it just have to laugh out loud. Wow, oh wow. Sad stuff there!!! Skip this film, really.
