Q: Ms. Kayla, can you tell me a little bit about yourself and how you first got involved with movie making?
A: I am 17 years old, I have lived in KY all my life! I am home schooled due to me traveling a lot, I am a Junior this year! I love Acting and Modeling, It's my life! I've done some plays at school growing up and have competed in Miss Kentucky Pageant system since I was little and won titles from Little Miss, Pre Teen and My Most recent Teen Miss Scott Co. I am also Former Junior Miss KY. I loved being on stage and Pageants kept me performing in front of people. There wasn't much to do in our small town so it was the one thing I loved and it kept me busy. Then one day my mom saw where they were holding auditions for extras for the movie Dreamer in our area. I went to the audition and got cast to be in Dreamer in 2005, I then got contacted in 2007 by the casting dept for E! Channel wanting me to try out for The Simple Life Season 5 with Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie. I sent in a video audition and they casted me for the role! It was pure luck though cause they normally don't cast out of LA for that kind of show they told us. But the Producer loved me so much that he had to get me out to LA the casting department told my Mom. Reminder I am still in school so that was my main focus so I just done it on the side. I had never been on a plane or to LA so I thought what the heck, why not! Might be my only chance to get to LA. So I accepted the contract and went to LA to be on the show! After being on set twice now, I caught the bug.. as most put it. I loved the whole behind the scene stuff that went on and took place. I am young and tried to absorbed it all in.. I loved it and wanted more!! It was then when I decided hey this is where I am suppose to be. I want to make movies! Not long after I got back to KY from LA I saw online where they were doing a movie in KY called Hell-Ephone. I went to the meeting and audition for a role in it and landed it. I got casted to be Madison in Hell-Ephone. It was an indie film and my very first actual Speaking Role Starring in a movie! I was so excited! After that, I just keep at it and got my hands into anything I could coming and going around our area in Acting & Modeling.
Q: Would you please explain your role in "Hell-Ephone."
A:Hell-Ephone was my Very first Role as an Actress. I seen where George was holding auditions and decided that I wanted to go try out for it. So I auditioned and got the call that I had been casted as one of the Hell-Ephone kids which was a very big role in his film. I can remember when he called, after he hung up from talking with Mom and I, I was running thru my house screaming!! I was so excited that I got cast to be in Hell-Ephone. Its a story of a prank gone horribly wrong. A group of college students which is the part I play the Role of "Madison", led by The Circuit Maker, a Svengali-like professor, make prank calls to funeral homes. After intently researching the obituaries, they try and convince whoever answers the call that they are the deceased calling from the great beyond. As the prank gets larger than life, gaining national attention, they attempt the biggest prank ever: they will 'Hell-ephone' the funeral of a recently executed serial killer, known as the Sea Monster. When the Sea Monster's mother drops dead after taking the call, the kids start showing up dead. Mike Stone, the lead detective on the Sea Monster case, is convinced that the Sea Monster has returned from the grave to avenge his mother's death. The rest of the police force, however, doesn't buy that theory. Now cavorting with the ultimate evil on the other side; has the Sea Monster been given to power to come back and continue the reign of terror that was interrupted for ten years while he sat on Death Row?
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: The plot of the story is very good and I think the viewers will love it! Especially my death scene, I hear from people all the time how it's their favorite part of the film. You will just have to go see it for yourself. I don't want to give too much info out about it.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A:
In Hell-Ephone we shot a scene at the fair where I had to get in a actual dunking tank full of water with Chris who played the role of my boyfriend and we both were tied up and duck taped where we ended up falling into the water with some dry ice in the tank. George had pumped me up all afternoon about this dry ice stuff and how it can burn you and that I had to be very careful or it could blister my skin and keep in mind that I am young and don't know a think about dry ice, he done this to bring the fear out in me, and of course it worked. I was scared to death. I got to the point where I was crying and the fear had set in and he knew it and felt bad and told me that it wouldn't hurt me and at that point I didn't know what to believe so he took off his shoes and jacket and removed his wallet and stuff and jumped down into the tank to show me for himself that it would not hurt me. Now that right there is a Director of the Year in my eyes. I felt so bad cause now he was wet too but he done what he needed too just to make me feel safe. I will never forget that.
Q: Looking back, I see that you’re working on a few other films. Can you tell me a little bit about some of your other work?
1) Santa Claus versus the Zombies
A: "Santa Claus Versus the Zombies" tells the story of a suburban family that finds themselves barricaded in their house following the outbreak of the Zombie plague. Along for the ride are a couple of elves and an actor that just might be the real Santa Claus. In the meantime, the President and his military advisers are holed up in a bunker feverishly trying to hatch a plan to rescue Santa and the desperate family. I am the daughter "Randy" in this film.
2) The Girl
A: Christmas Eve wasn't so festive when a disturbed mother of three slashed her husband and two of her children in an old campground. Years later, the surviving daughter falls victim to a random rape, activating painful childhood memories and turning "The Girl" into a murderous (albeit sexy) freak, inventively killing everyone in sight! This campground massacre dedicated to the late Corey Haim features an all-star horror cast! I play the role of "Laura" in this film. Will be released and out on DVD in Sept 13, 2011
3) Nightmare Fuel
A: Every October, live entertainment creeps into every town in America. People are transformed into monsters, while others pay gladly for horrific performances. But sometimes, acting isn't enough for the spirits that rule Halloween. And this year... the spirits want the encore of a lifetime. This one has not been released yet either so I can't say too much about it! I play the role of "Christie" in it!
4) Hell House
A: Within the city limits of Devilin lies a home the towns folk call "Hell House". A house that was once the home of a family accused of mass murder. A family known as the Reapers. I play the role of "Cyndi" in this film. It's not on DVD yet so I can't say much more then this yet!
Q: What's next for you? Can you tell me what else you have going on in 2011?
A:
I start filming on "Into The Darkness" where a group of friends descend upon a remote wilderness area in celebration of Ridge and Allie's return after a year spent out West. Their decision to embark on a short exploration of a nearby cave turns into a horrific struggle for survival. Director of Into The Darkness is Joel Bender, Executive Producer is Pamela Vlastas, Producers Paul and Jade Moser , Co-Producer Manette Rosen, and Associate Producer Anthony Vlastas. Lead actors are Jessica Andres (M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender"), Kiowa Gordon ("New Moon", "Eclipse"), Louis Mandylor ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding"), Wolfgang Weber ("Nip/Tuck"), Russ Russo ("Donner Pass"), Anna Enger ("Meet the Browns"), Dalal Bruchmann (Austrian actress), Toby Hemingway (Feast of Love, The Covenant)and Alexa Nikolas (Criminal Minds, Zoey 101). The score will be composed by Grammy nominated songwriter and producer for Universal Music, Rob Graves. I am very excited about this project and can't wait to start filming!
