- Katie Russell has appeared in a few movies, including "House of Bedlam" and "Stockholm Syndrome". Anyone looking for more info on Katie or her films, can visit her at her website page or her myspace page.
Q: Katie, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?
A: You know the old saying, “being at the right place at the right time”? well that was pretty much me. I was on a modeling website and a director saw my picture and contacted me. Sounds too easy but I swear that’s how it happened.
Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "House of Bedlam."
A:I played the role of Abby Reynolds. Abby is a college student stuck going on a trip for a school project with 4 guys that she barely tolerates. she’s not your typical “look at, look at me” college student. She was immune to not only her looks, but also in so many words to the town of bedlam.
Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.
A: It’s a story about a group of college students that are brought together for a school project and take a wrong turn in a town that is haunted by female ghost whores from a lynching that happened years ago by some crazy church people. I think that pretty much sums it up.
Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?
A: I don’t know where to start with that one. id have to say in house of bedlam there's a scene where I had to do my own stunt. I don’t want to give away too much in case there are people reading this who haven't seen the movie, but I actually got hurt pretty bad doing it. The first take my feet were still in frame, the second take was “the money shot” and of course I got hurt on that take. I just laid there and didn’t move. Shockingly I didn’t cry. And of course a third take had to be done and I was in20pain at that point and really wasn’t up for any physical activity. The next day I ended up getting x-rays and fractured a rib, my tailbone, and slightly ruptured a disc.
Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?
A: We filmed in the woods which was quite eventful….if you can check out you tube or if you get the movie its on the second disc with behind the scenes. We had a crazy guy that did everything he could to sabotage our filming. He was cutting down I think everything in site in the woods. There was a dog that followed us everywhere. It kinda reminded me of that killer in the movie that would walk at a normal pace while the victim runs but it still manages to either catch up to you or cut you off somewhere….and this was a dog! And then some lady showed up freaking out…she thought someone got attacked (chainsaw chucky in the woods) when someone was screaming (it was a scene in the movie). So after that day, I knew the movie was gonna turn out ok.
Q: I see that you've also appeared in other films. Can you tell me a little about each one and your experience with it? First, "Stockholm Syndrome"?
A: "Stockholm Syndrome" is about human trafficking. think hostile but only better in my opinion. Ryan Cavalline (director) 4th floor pictures, was the mastermind behind this movie. I play the role of a victim (is it bad that I don’t remember her name?) that is being held captive and I think that’s all I'm going to say besides this is a must see movie…very intense!!! As for being on set with the 4th floor crew, I had a blast! the guys couldn’t have been more welcoming and professional!
2) How about "Curse of the Wolf"?
A: "Curse of the Wolf" was my first movie and it was with killerwolf films. I played the role of harley, who was a bad ass that didn’t take shit from anyone. "Curse of the Wolf" was about a girl that wanted out of the “pack.” She found a way to prevent hersel from turning into a werewolf. Of course the rest of us are mad and we’re not having it. So we seek her out and try to put an end to it. I had the pleasure of working with lanny poffo, brian heffron, and darian caine in this movie.
3) How about "Chasing Darkness"?
A: "Chasing Darkness" was with snowdog studio under the direction of jason hull. This was jason’s first movie and it sold out at the eerie horror fest 2007 and won an award at the indie gathering 2008. This movie is about a mobster that wants out of the family but must complete one final job that he didn’t finish the first time. Think sopranos and vampires. I play the role of Ciarra, the girlfriend that doesn’t trust her man. Hmm..i have no comment on that. Anyway, I had a lot of fun on set with everyone while filming. The only time I wasn’t thrilled was when I was underground. Actually wait that wasn’t so bad…it was far worse when jason made me drive my own car to the next location in full make-up. Watch the movie and you’ll see what I'm taking about.
Q: What's next for you? I see that your schedule looks pretty busy for 2009. Can you tell me what you have going on?
A: Well I will be filming with 4th floor pictures again for “killing fields” in January/Feb depending on weather. Id like to get to as many film festivals as I can this year. I'm currently in talks with Leonard Lies with some possible projects also. So I’m hoping for the best! Oh and "Stockholm Syndrome" will be released in 2009!!!
Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?
A: You know I'm not sure because I never thought that id be where I'm at today a year ago. hopefully though ill still be with the indie movie scene and have a few more movies completed and known as the indie scream queen of Pennsylvania.
Q: Is there any movie director or producer you really want to work for one day?
A: I have a list! Id love to work with kevin smith and id be willing to do anything to have that opportunity…except for sign my soul to the devil.
Q: Are there certain types of films you enjoy doing? What do you look for when picking projects?
A: I've only done horror and wouldn’t mind sticking with horror. If I had the chance for something different, I'd be very open about reading the script and possibly taking a detour to try it out. As for picking out projects, I like a good storyline. Usually the ones that I read and an instant picture comes to my mind, I'm in.
Q: You’ve appeared in a few films, but have been involved in some TV shows, Modeling, and even TV Commercials, correct? Can you tell us where we may have seen you in those various projects?
A: I have been on the national reality tv dating show, elimidate. I did an industrial commercial under the direction of cameron romero (dad is george romero), and a bunch of local things. I was on the rachel and ray live tv morning show in erie, in the erie times quite a few times (no not under police reports), on radio shows, etc
Q: If you could choose only one type of art (tv, movies, modeling, etc) to continue working on, what would you choose?
A: Movies! I absolutely enjoy being in front of the camera and entertaining people.
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A: Definitely check out stockholm syndrome when it comes out in 2009! Also check out my website www.katierussell.com or myspace.com/modelactresskatie
To get more info on the movies I've been in, will be in, and to see my pics! And don’t be shy…I don’t bite
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: The last movie I saw was “saw 5.” But Im looking forward to seeing "the unborn" and "my bloody valentine." Cant wait!! But as for a movie that prob no one has seen or even heard of…"jacko." my friends and I would rent the most off the wall horror movie that we could find on a Friday night when we were in high school. "Jacko" has always been a favorite of ours. It is very b-movie and I couldn’t stress that enough. We actually tried finding it to rent it again for old times and cant locate that movie anywhere!
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
A: Thank you for letting me ramble on! i had alot fun!
