Q: Kathryn, can you explain how you first got into the movie business?

A: I studied theatre at New York University. I did plays out of school, but I really wanted some experience on camera, so I started submitting myself for whatever film work I could. I booked a short film, and after that, an independent horror movie called “Plasterhead,” and I tried to just keep going from there.

Q: Would you please explain your acting role in "The Creek"?

A: I play Angel in The Creek. She used to be this sweet, loving person and then turned tough and fell down a bottle after going through the traumatic loss of her friend, which she’s never quite gotten over.

Q: Knowing how movie reviews may skew the perception of one's product, give us in your own words what you want people to know about the film.

A: It’s a ghost-thriller, about 6 people who return to solve the mystery of their friend’s death 5 years earlier. It’s full of suspense, plus some gore and good scares, and has a cool heavy metal score. You should check it out :)

Q: If there were one part of the filming that was more difficult than you expected, what would that be? Getting a costume to work? Appearing in a certain scene? Certain lines?

A: Well I think something that was hard for everyone was shooting from dusk till dawn, but for only 3 days of the week… so by the time we got used to staying up all night, we’d have to switch back to a normal day time schedule. It was a cool challenge to try to be nocturnal… but I’m not gonna lie it makes you pretty loopy trying to switch back and forth. Also… the poison ivy. That was less than bueno.

Q: Was there any one day, one moment where you just knew the film would work they way you thought it could?

A: I always love seeing the special effects, so I think seeing Billy’s ghost make up for the first time was pretty cool.

Q: I see that you’ve also done some theatre in the past? Can you tell me a little about where we may have seen you?

A: Among other stuff, I did a national tour playing Desdemona in Othello, which took us to 65 cities throughout the U.S., plus Bermuda. So now when people say they’re from a small town no one’s heard of, I always want to know the name… and every once in a while it’s like – wait, I’ve been there! And then we get to talk about how awesome their local greasy spoon is or what have you.

Q: If you could chose only one type of art to work on, what would it be? Movies or theatre?

A: Actually… I think I’m really into TV at this point. I mean I’d hate to be limited at all to doing just one! But lately I’ve been really excited about the sheer amount of story you can tell in a series. And as an actor, I think it would be incredible to sink your teeth into one character on an ongoing basis like that.

Q: What's next for you? What else does 2009 hold for you?

A: Well in keeping with the TV thing - I just shot a pilot for a new cable network called Halogen (no wonder doing a series has been on my mind lately!). The show is called StartUP, and it’s a half hour comedy. My character’s name is Matt, and she and her genius partner in crime Mitch are launching a start up company they believe will revolutionize the face of internet communication... if it doesn’t destroy their relationship first. My website will have the info about airdates and all that good stuff… www.kathrynmerry.com Check it out!!

Q: If you and I were to talk 1 year from today, what do you think would be on your plate at that time?

A: Good question! I can never plan too far in advance because of the nature of the business I’m in, but I’ll say that I definitely hope StartUP gets picked up for series. And I’d love to do another horror movie. I figure if you do 2, you have to do 3, right? Maybe I can be the bad guy this time.

Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?

A: Uhm… that I totally appreciate horror movie fans. I think they’re the coolest. No joke.

Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?

A: It was Nightmare on Elm Street! I was trying to do my homework on classic horror movies I had never seen, so I rented 3 and tried to watch them in one night. Thing is, I’m a complete wimp when it comes to watching scary movies. Making them is awesome… and watching them gives me insomnia. I only made it through Freddy, and then half of Hellraiser, and by then I was too freaked out to continue. I guess I’ll have to see Phantasm on another day :)

Q: Thank you very much for doing this.

          A: You’re totally welcome!
