- Jonathan Moody is the writer and director for the upcoming series, "Scream Queen Campfire." Anyone looking for more info on Jonathan or his films, can visit him at his IMDB page.
Q: Jonathan, can you tell me a little bit about yourself and how you first got involved with movie making?
A:
I started out doing theater in elementary school. I got a video camera from my parents when I was like 6 years old and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't even realize movies were edited at all. So my friends and I would just act goofy in front of the camera and do little skits. They'd be painful to watch now but back then we were having fun. By the age of 13 I started writing scripts which were actually more like plays. They sucked. I did it for so many years never actually learning how to write better until I started reading books on screenplay writing. And after that everything just kind of took off from there.
Q: Tell me about Sick Flick Productions.
A:Sick Flick Productions was founded 2006 when I was trying to do a feature film called, "My Girlfriend, The Serial Killer". I wanted to branch out of just doing comedy and dramas to doing horror as well. I combined horror with comedy and made a romantic horror comedy. 3 years or so nothing really happened and I was bummed out. Lots of projects came and went and in 2009 I got some friends together and did a short called, "Black Out" that is being remade for Scream Queen Campfire. Sick Flick Productions is just for horror and sci fi and fantasy.
Q: Would you please elaborate on your roles with “Scream Queen Campfire"?
A:Creator, Producer, Writer (or Co Writer depending on the episode), director, and actor. Wow thats alot of hats to hold but I'm very excited about it. SQC is my baby and always will be. I created the series as a way to showcase short films but in a fun and entertaining way. I wanted to produce it because I didn't want to get told I couldn't have who I wanted involved in it. I wrote and co wrote a bunch of episodes. And I plan to direct a bunch of episodes as well. I'll also be acting in a few ones too.
Q: How far along are you with the filing and completion with “Campfire”?
A:
We are actually just in Pre Production. We did a short film with Devanny Pinn called, "The Closet" that I think looks amazing so far. It needs a touch up of work but I'm very proud of it. Terry Jernigan who directed and produced it helped me co write it and shape it to the film it became. Devanny did a fantastic job in it too. I can't wait for people to see it. We're trying to get a pilot together and that'll go on the pilot.
Q: I’ve seen the countless stars as well up and coming talented actresses you seem to be amassing for “Campfire.” I’m so amazed at the collection of talent. What is your secret for getting them all into one place to work together?
A: People ask me this ALL the time. And really it all comes down to the scripts they have to work with. Alot of my scripts bring out alot of fun and entertainment to the mix. I think without a good story and interesting characters a script is majorly dull and I could never put my name on a project I found to be majorly dull. But once they have all signed on the biggest deal is getting the funding for the rest of it and then the fun really begins. I'm excited because the cast of SQC is so big and so fun I'm just excited to see everything work out finally!
Q: I saw from the “Sick Flick” Facebook page that you’re working on a few other films. Can you tell me a little bit about them? What’s been completed? On the horizon?
A:
Echo Lake is a webseries/feature film Kelsey Zukowski and I created. Its halfway completed and I'm proud of everyone thats been working on it. Also we have Trick or Eat which is an anthology series being worked on. We've done a bunch of the films and we're planning 2 volumes for it. Slaughter House Party Massacre is something we're working on this summer. I'm only acting, writing, and producing it. My special fx guru Coven Delacruz will be directing it. Also after Scream Queen Campfire is finished we'll be working on getting funds for both "Plan B From Outer Space!" and "Sasquatch VS Yeti" two projects I've been working on for what feels like a LOONNNG time. So excited for all these projects and many more to come that I can't announce just yet!
Q: Is there any movie actor or actress you’ve never worked with (or don’t have signed up for “Campfire”) that you really want to work with one day?
A:
Actor- Johnny Depp... I think he is phenomenal. And I would reallly die to work with him.
Actress- Elisha Cuthbert... I haven't seen her do alot of stuff lately and unfortunately she hasn't been doing well in horror. Would love to bring her back to that genre.
Q: Anything you wish to add for my readers and visitors? Something special about you that they probably do not know?
A: I got up to Junior black belt in Karate and have always wanted to write a martial arts film. But something that brings back all the fun martial arts films of the 80s and 90's like "Kickboxer" 1 and 2, "Only The Strong", "No Retreat no surrender" stuff like that. If I could revive that kind of sub genre of film and maybe even add a little horror twist to it I would be all over that.
Q: Finally...this is an "Obscure Horror Movie" website. Can you name the last horror movie you watched either at the theatres or on dvd, etc? How about name a favorite horror film that you have seen that most people probably haven't seen?
A: Last horror movie I watched was Paranormal Activity actually. I thought it was fun but maybe a bit too slow for my taste. I like my horror to grab me really quick and never let go. I'm excited to see Insidious soon though. And horror movie I've seen that others may not have seen... The Mutilator. I love cheesy slasher films and that was one of the best 80s independent films. That or Scott Spiegel's "Intruder". Slasher in a grocery store... how cooler can you get?
Q: Thank you very much for doing this.
A: Thank youuuu for interviewing me!!!!
