Summary: It is 1912 and American war correspondent Oliver Davis accompanies Greek General Pherides out to a small island as he goes to visit the grave of his wife. But they find the grave desecrated and the island infected with a plague. So the General orders the island quarantined and eventually comes to believe that the maid who attends the ill British Consul's wife, must be a vorvoloka, a native spirit that walks the Earth in human form to drink human blood. Problem is, what if they have the wrong suspect?
Overall: The film is however based on one of the best known paintings (above) by Swiss-German artist Arnold Böcklin. You would think being the big Boris Karloff fan that I am, I’d have enjoyed this film more. I’m not sure if the other actors were that useless or the plot was that boring...but this film was painful to sit through. It isn’t more than like 70 minutes long but it takes forever it seemed like. Sorry but of the Karloff films, this is skippable. Comparison: The Bunker meets The Island |
