Summary: It’s 1927 and John Mayhew is about to elope with Charlotte, the daughter of Big Sam Holliss. But as Mayhew waits for her, he is attacked with a meat cleaver. Charlotte is believed to be the murderer but gets acquitted for lack of evidence. Now, 37 years later, Charlotte lives alone in the old family mansion. When the house is threatened with a demolition order, Charlotte calls on her cousin Miriam for help. But Miriam isn’t exactly there to save her!
Overall: Such a tremendous cast for the film, it’s a shame it was so long and slow in parts. We have Olivia De Havilland, Agnes Moorehead, Bruce Dern, Bette Davis and Joseph Cotton. And then after our opening scene it just takes forever to get to the point. I liked the performances and it’s a classic film that people should see. But get out your remote and have it ready.
