House (2009)

Summary: In rural Alabama, two couples find themselves in a fight for survival. Running from a maniac bent on killing them, they flee deep into the woods and seek refuge in a house. They soon realize the killer has purposely lured them to this house and that they are now trapped. As they huddle around an old fireplace, a tin can falls through the chimney. Scrawled on its side is a message from the killer, establishing his House Rules. The rules call for their deaths unless they kill at least one of the four. They have less than 12 hours to find a way to survive. What’s worse…they can’t trust each other anymore!           Overall: Now I know the movie was supposed to have deep religious conflicts and really give us how the world should be run if we were all good Christians. But the movie is just your garden-variety slasher film with some weird family members there too. Everyone’s a sinner, everyone should go to hell and no one should come out of the story claiming to be the moral right because they’re all evil. I felt the movie was just so-so and spent way too much time on confusing and tricking the characters with flashbacks and past issues and not enough focus on how they’re escaping and why they bothered going there in the first place. Nothing special here really.           Comparison: Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets People under the Stairs
