The Witch Who Came From the Sea (1976)

Molly is having some serious issues, which are finally all coming to a climax. She’s sleeping with her boss but fantasizing about killing muscle men and football players. Turns out the fantasies are really occurring and soon the entire city is wondering what’s going on and who is responsible. Molly’s friends and family are figuring it out but they also know why she’s on a murder spree. Molly thinks her father was the greatest father of all-time: a ship boat captain who is still lost at sea but without a flaw in the world. The truth is that he was a child molester continually abusing Molly and frankly her killing of these beefy men is sort of a way to strike back subconsciously at her dad. But will Molly keep killing people or will her friends stop her first?

Overall: This was a pleasant surprise when it arrived in my mail and even more worthwhile during the watching. The film could have really gone off the deep end with either gore or nudity but the film is serious. It wants to tell the story of this lady who just has had way too many issues and doesn’t want to make judgments one way or other if she justified or not. I really thought this was a good film and worth watching. Trust me, it’s not for the squeamish. “Subversive Cinema” isn’t spitting out Disney films. This has some really disturbing scenes at times and you gotta be prepared for the child rape scenes. It’s not for those expecting “PG” filmmaking. The only flaw with the film I think is we catch Molly in the middle of her sprees but don’t necessarily appreciate what starts the killing nor if she had killed before the film’s timeline starts up. I do think that scene involving the football players being tortured on the bed was actually too long…it’s a good 9 minutes of chatting before any action starts. But the ending is definitely worth the journey. It’s different, it’s unique and quite fitting. These issues of rape, murder, drug abuse, obsession, etc. are all treated differently in this movie than in most and it’s quite refreshing. Get a copy of this!
