Overall: I may be the only one in America but I liked this movie a lot. Some of the scenes were so violently unexpected, that this film will make you jump out of your chair. And trust me when I say “violent.” Many criticize this film for “plot holes” but frankly, it leaves some things to the viewer’s imagination. It answers enough questions but I can see why the ending was unsatisfying for some. I think the film should have finished in a different fashion but I’ve got no real problem with it as is. When you recognize the “truth,” you realize that she was the focus and that’s why things are different for her than for anyone else. I’d love to explain more but I’d be giving it away – if you didn’t like this film or thought there were probs with it, e-mail me and we’ll talk. 2/16/05 - Ok, so I caught the film on DVD with the alternate ending. The ending is different and puts a distinct spin on the “abductors.” It uses some of the same scenes but in a different order and different context. The theatrical ending is scarier and much more “violent." And it gets to use a scene that the “alternate” one doesn’t...but if I had to choose a particular ending, actually I’d go with this “alternative” one. I think it better explains the very, very end as she sits on the swing and also what Ash does and doesn’t know. I think it does a more complete job analyzing Telly’s fears and hopes for her child as well as the power of erasing her memories. Comparison: The “X-Files” meets Sixth Sense |
