John has a heart attack, but his wife knows that she won't get any of the inheritance if John is dead. Louise forges a letter from John to convince the rest of his family he's been called to New York on important business, and she goes off to his Irish ancestral home to meet the family and look for a way to ensure a cut of the loot. But the family isn’t quite normal and not all the bodies are staying dead.
Overall: Directed by Frances Ford Coppola, you can see bits of some talent but really had you watched this at the time, no way you think this is gonna be masterful director some day. The film is an “ok” murder mystery with lots of story and at times, quite little action. Very few deaths and even at 74 minutes, almost seems too long. Back in the day, movie theatre managers had to deal with people quizzing customers of this film to see if they can take the terror they were about to experience. Nice publicity and fun but I think only people trying to scare you ahead of time, would help get you to be scared by this film. Comparison: Shattered meets It’s Alive |
