My Little Eye (2002)

5 people are picked to live in a house so we can find out what happens when people stop being polite. And start getting real. Oh and they must stay in the house 6 months and if anyone leaves early, then they all lose their share of the $1 million prize money. Needless to say it’s not an easy road and these strangers will have to fight off the attempts to detour them from winning…but will this persistence kill them?

Overall: Ok, I did quote "The Real World" above but frankly this show is almost Real World meet Fear Factor. And I enjoyed it. I think the best part of the movie comes in when Travis first visits these 5 contestants and gets it in their head that no one is watching the show and it could all be a scam. I really think that the film did a good job portraying the desperation and potential abandonment. I really had no expectations for the film but as it got going I really got hooked. Was this a ploy by the producers to avoid paying the $$? Are the producers even paying attention? Is this all a sick game? If you have a chance to get your hands on this film, do so. It’s not without its flaws however. I think the biggest prob I had was that the film jumps in to the 6-month adventure with 2 weeks left. It’s as if nothing happened for 5 ½ months and as the story unfolds, nothing did. But for those trying to scare the contestants, why wait 5 months to do it? Why not start day 1? And because they didn’t start with more flashbacks or older stuff, it was hard to get an idea of who these people were before they start to freak out. Other than this, it still was a good film and worth the watch. And the ending…that’s almost out of the Asian Horror film genre. You won’t see that coming and it definitely is worth the time. The film really does a good job of capturing the atmosphere for the adjectives: Bleak, Nihilistic, Desperation, Hopelessness.
