A black widow spider from the jungles of South America is accidentally transported in a crate with a dead body to America where it mates with a local spider. Soon after, the residents of a small California town disappear as the result of a spider bite and a deadly spider offspring. It's up to a couple of doctors with the help of an insect exterminator to annihilate these mutant creatures.
Overall: Well this is a very enjoyable film and frankly, to me, one of the scariest movies out there. Unlike many “creature” and “monster” films, it’s the sheer fact these spiders are small...not truly mutated (like with radiation or whatever), that makes them scary. Basically this film scares you with ordinary looking spiders in ordinary situations and that’s why scariest of all. It’s trying to relate to you and get you to buy in…and you will. John Goodman’s performance was just awesome. Go and get this film if you haven’t. Comparison: Eight-Legged Freaks meets Welcome Home Roxy Charmichael |
