Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Well just when you thought it was over, Doctor Frankenstein and his monster are still alive and kicking. The good Doctor realizes his experiments were morally wrong and decides to get out of the “creation” business but another doctor has other plans. Dr. Pretorious is also working on creating beings and once he finds the Monster to be alive, decided that maybe a race of these creatures would be beneficial. With the Monster’s help, Pretorious has Frankenstein’s wife kidnapped and blackmails Frankenstein to help create a bride for the monster. The Bride eventually comes into being but she’s not gonna be the sweet lady everyone was hoping for. She can go from “Zero to Bitch” in 3.1 seconds!

Overall: A film follow up to Shelley’s classic novel. I do feel this film is a good follow-up and frankly, I loved “the Bride.” The hair and scream have been absolute classic s all these years later. You can also see a bit of “Lawnmower Man” (the movie) in the Monster towards the end. And the way this film starts is identical to “Halloween 5” with shots of the end to the prior movie along with the escape into an underground well. And an off the set comment: Boris Karloff (Monster) & Colin Clive (Dr. Frankenstein) each suffered broken legs in separate accidents. The film has some tremendous emotional scenes: Monster & Blind Man, Bride realizing why she was created and who she’s supposed to be friends with, and the Monster realizing what he truly needs to do to end the madness. It’s a very good film that many regard as better than the original…I’ll just say that’s it’s a good continuation.
