Sigourney Weaver is Helen Hudson, an expert on serial killers. As San Francisco begins to recognize that a serial killer may be running loose, 2 cops, Goetz and Monahan, go to Hudson for help. Helen has realized even earlier than them that a copycatter is loose. Whereas most serial killers stick to one modus operandi, this one appears to enjoy copycatting all killers using various killing methods. The closer the cops start to get to the killer, the closer he gets to the police and Helen. Soon Helen realizes that the killer has been visiting her and playing with her mind and she better develop a trap for the killer before he finishes. But the 2 cops aren't done yet for the two have their own ideas on how to stop the killer. But soon they all realize that the killer has an ace in the hole, a convicted killer who knows Hudson better than she knows herself. And he has a score to settle.
Overall: One of the best films on serial killers out there. The film acts as a great history of our nation's most devious and treacherous of citizens. Harry Connick Jr. turns in an all-star performance as convicted killer Daryll Lee Collum. William McNamara, playing killer Peter Kurten, used this film to start his acting career of playing killers, such as in "Natural Enemy." The film does fail in when it comes to common sense in the portrayal of the murders (I mean think of the time wasted and chances taken in re-creating killings step by step). The focus of the film though is on the method and thoughts of the killer. This film definitely excels there. Comparison: Sherlock Holmes meets Resurrection |
