Theatre of Blood (1973)

Edward Lionheart is as an actor overlooked for a critics' acting award, despite producing a season’s worth of Shakespeare plays. After confronting the Critics' Circle, an attempted suicidal dive into the Thames results in Lionheart being rescued by a bunch of homeless druggies. Lionheart decides to take revenge on everyone involved with the help of these bad guys but the chief inspector of the case is fairly bright himself and won’t let anything more happen in his precious city.

Overall: Vincent Price does a really nice job in this movie, as “Edward Lionheart” and I really liked the use of “Shakespeare” in the film. The methods of death coincided with the plays that the offending critic wrote about. But the film is so cheesy in other ways. The trampoline? The basketball court? Vincent Price dressed as a gay man? Silly stuff. I like the movie and then one scene after another cry of “Cheese.” Some people enjoy the film a ton and find the cast as most excellent, others think Price did a fine job but the film was too gory. I say it’s a silly film that shows Price’s acting skills but puts him into situations that make him look disrespected.
