Messiah of Evil (1973)

Point Dune is a small town near the ocean that has a very odd population. Seems that the residents are a tad “dead” and the visitors are trying to make sense of it all while looking for a local artist, Joseph Lang. The closer they get to finding the artist the closer they are to dying and when they do find the artist, it won’t be what they expect.

Overall: The movie starts off with a lot of narration but calms down after about 30 minutes. The writing of the dialogue was quite good and the metaphors/similes were unique: "Her hands moved over my face like a pale spider." However the sexual innuendo was fairly thick too as Thom spoke to Arletty: "There is something you can do for me. My zipper is stuck." The movie was just "ok" and very slow at times. Thom’s character was very vague and his concubines were also a mystery. Why were they following him? What were they trying to accomplish? I think the key to the movie was why "Mobil" and "Ralphs" agreed to have their stores filmed with all those gruesome deaths in them. This story of the "Donnor Party" and such was most interesting to catch the connections between the story of the "Messiah" and the film ""Ravenous." Although the idea of the Donnor group and the priest was interesting the religion plot veins were more contrived and thrown in, instead of being well meshed and integrated. I did like the ending though – was a bit fun.
