Deranged (1974)

Ezra Cobb is an introverted man who hasn’t quite gotten over his mom’s death. So much so, that after digging up her corpse and placing the body in her room, he continues to seek advice from it. Soon he decides he needs some company and brings over some other corpses and a few living ladies (not for long) so as to create a big gathering of death. But he can’t get away with this for long, can he?

Overall: If this movie wasn’t already based on a true story this movie probably couldn’t have gotten made. Another story about “Ed Gein” – in fact the first film made on the true life story of a man who loved skinning corpses, dressing up like women (in their skin no less) and occasionally killing people in his spare time. Like the other films that are more of “documentary” on Gein’s life they fail for the sole fact that they just don’t move along fast enough. They spend so much time of skinning, dressing up, etc., that you can’t find a discernable plot anywhere. At least movies such as “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Psycho” used these aspects as part of an overall plot. This film makes its plot to show you the horrors Gein engaged in. But we all know this. We’ve read the books, seen the A&E documentaries.” Tell me something I don’t know. This film doesn’t. “Psycho” was not just about a guy who pretends he’s his own mother and kills women. It’s about the hotel, it’s about whether mother really is alive, it’s about the motel customers. This film is all Gein, all the time and by itself, that’s not interesting enough!
