Lieutenant Ballard has been having a rough week. Her transportation train has dropped her off in a ghost town. Except the ghosts are really possessed mine workers and all she has as her backup are a few rookie cops and some prisoners in a local jail. With their help she must decide whether to save their hides and run, or make a stand for the good of the planet.
Overall: I got one main thought about this movie...did Carpenter really think we’d not confuse this with his attempt to take Snake Plissken and place him on another planet? I mean this really is “Escape from Mars,” isn’t it? The plot isn’t very good for the fact the entire movie is a rip-off of other films. The way the organism is thinking going person to person in order to cause extinction is “Puppet Master.” The transmission from person to person is “Fallen.” The way the Lt. beats the organism is “Faculty.” The ending with the nuclear explosion and the aftereffects is “Outbreak.” The film is nothing more than rehashed plots stuffed into the façade of a “Escape from Los Angeles” sequel. The film also is just badly written. The movie is more one-liners than real plots twists. The names of the characters...hello! “Desolation Williams”? Anytime someone is named after a verb, that’s lack of originality. Natasha Henstridge’s real character should be called “Druggee Ballard” The film fails in just so many ways...I mean even the title is a misnomer – the people aren’t dead so how can they be ghosts? Just a bad film all over. Come on John, the last few films you’ve done have just plain sucked. I think you lost the edge! Comparison: Escape from New York meets Total Recall |
